I went back to my Italian army for FOW for a bit, just to fill out the support weapons. I had painted and based up the crew, when I did the infantry, but had not finished the guns. So, it was time to work on these.
As this is a European uniformed army, I went with the Italian green as the right scheme for all the guns. I decided to include two 88s, but was not sure if the Italians repainted these or not. I could not find a good reference, so I just went with my gut and assumed they would be repainted to keep them in good order for the long term.
While I was pulling all the guns out, I realized that I did not have any 47mm ATGs! I forgot that I had used the ones I had for my Romanian army. So, looking online, I opted to go with the Old Glory Command Descision option, as they are sturdy and be of all, cheap. The 75mms and 47mm are all older metal castings. The 100mm and 88mm are the newer plastic kits that come with the FOW Italian army box sets (of which I have two).
Now, the question was how I was going to represent the Italian ordnance green. From what I’ve seen, it has a very moss grey green look. From that, I decided a base of PSC German field grey would be a nice base. So, after assembling all the models, I sprayed them with the PSC color.
I was going to hit all the models with a black wash, but decided I need a little more green tone, so I instead used the Vallejo dark green armor wash. This would still give me my shading, but would bring the color to green and would highlight up better. Next was dry brush time. I started with a heavy dry brush of Vallejo field gray. I then pulled out some black and painted all the tires and gun barrel ends. I finished up with a light dry brush of Iraqi Sand.
I sprayed them all with some Dull coat and realized I forgot the ammo boxes to fill in the bases better. So, to the bits box and repeated the same paint scheme. I then glued all but two of the guns to the bases. I left two 75s off, as I wanted to be able to switch these out for the 88s that I painted, for those occasions that I wanted to use these. With that, I have the guns to go with the troops!
