Well, a little time for company, not so much time for painting or hobby time. I have been meaning to get back to painting some Epic stuff and finally got to it. In this case, it was my collection of old GW Epic scale Haruspex vehicles. I had the models, but never got round to painting them. Sooo, I pulled the out and got to work.
These have been sitting in my unpainted Epic box for longer than I care to admit. Let’s just say that they were in production when I bought them…. I had primed them black way in the day and they sat in a drawer ever since. This option is included in the GW Armageddon cards, so it made sense to add them to my painted collection (unlike some other models that I have to re-purpose…)
I needed to make a decision if I would re-prime them or work up from the back. I decided to go up from the black, as I thought a dark purple scheme would look interesting. I started with painting the basic colors on the model. This was basically the tan chitin at the rear. I then hit all the areas that I planned to be red (except the spikes) and gave them all a base coat. That got the base scheme done.
The next step was applying washes. I started with the black at the front and covered it all with a GW purpose wash. I then hit the red and tan with a brown wash. With that, I had the shading in place. I set them aside to let that dry and worked on something else for a couple hours… Getting back to the Haruspex, I dry brushed up the tan with two shades up. I then hit the purple areas with a light violet dry brush. Next, I hit all the red areas with a red dry brush.
Next came the spikes. I went back and forth, but decided that I would go with black spikes with red tips. So, I painted all the back spikes and raised sections with black. I then hit the top of every raised area with red paint. I thought this would tie the red nicely together. Once this was done, it was time for some satin coat to seal the model and I now have more Tyranid vehicles!
