With the purchase of the new Bagration Finnish unit cards, I also picked up the Finnish Bagration command cards. With the current set up from Battlefront, you can play your forces with just the unit cards, but if you want to pimp up your formations with some extra abilities, use some speciality units or expand your company types, you really have to buy the command cards too. This is true with all the sets. If you buy these, you really do not need to by the books, as the cards give you everything, but the books do not give you the rules for the command cards. The books also contain fluff and painting guides and in some cases scenarios. However, I have found that the cards are good enough for me.
As mentioned in my previous post, I have been waiting impatiently for the new cards for the German minor allies. I have all three armies in various stages of completion. However, until I know what units would look like in V4, I was not motivated to finish the armies. Now that I know how to organize my forces, I just need to tweak my basing and finish (pardon the pun) everything up!
This command card set is rather small and gives you a few special characters, some additional unit cards to fill out your forces, some special abilities and additional companies. The main companies and units are a light infantry company and an engineer company. These are both desirable units and companies, so make the set a must for me. With that said, I think Battlefront should have just included these in the base set, as the base unit cards only include three units. I would have preferred that they just focused these cards on more special characters and some additional special units (Sissi come to mind…). I would of liked to see some more specialized bunker style units and artillery variations (the army had a real hodge lodge of guns). However, overall, the set adds a lot to the base unit cards and is a must by in my opinion.
