I was surfing through the Safari toys last year looking for some Christmas presents for my nephew. While surfing, I came across a wooden fence set (which I cannot find now) that I thought would work for my gaming needs. They were cheap, so I ordered two sets (each of four sections). After a while, they showed up. I packaged up the toys that I bought and sent them off as Christmas presents and pulled out the fence for my collection.
When I looked at the sets, they were not what I was expecting. I had thought they would make nice fencing, but once I saw them, I found they were way way to large. I marked this as a miss on my part and put them aside. While cleaning up my hobby storage, I came across the sets and thought they would be useful for making a corduroy wood road in 28mm games. Each section snaps together, so it can be secure on the table. I can also use them as flat bridge sections on tables, by just using a couple of sections. So, with the purpose decided, I decided to paint them up
Since they are just a whole bunch of logs and would be on the ground, I decided to go with a dark brown effect and avoid a dried out wood effect. So, I sprayed all the sections Krylon dark camo brown. I then covered them with a black Vallejo dip wash and let that dry. Next was a couple of dry brushes of dark brown, brown, earth brown and tan. I finished up with some Krylon dull coat and they were ready to go. So, some toys, some paint and I have more gaming terrain!
