Novus Design recently had a sale on their online store and I used the opportunity to pick up a few bits and bobs to add to my Star Wars Legion terrain collection. While going through the catalog, I found two different sets of sci fi crates and some pillars that looked like some type of processor unit that I though would complement water evaporators. I picked up a few sets, so I would have plenty to add to a board.

The models come moulded in dark grey hard resin and are all single part models. They are mostly flash free, with a little at the base only. They are clearly single part caste models, as the bottoms are smooth, so you can see where they are poured. This is somewhat limiting, as this means you have to stack them with the same side down, or ignore the flat section (or just ignore it).

I decided two paint some of the boxes white and others dark grey, to add some variation and blend with my earlier painted terrain. I had a few other boxes from other sources, so I painted them at the same time. I sprayed the white boxes with Krylon white primer and the others with riling grey. I hit the white boxes with GW contrast white and the grey boxes with woodland scenics black wash. Once that dried, I dry brushed both sets with a highlight of white and grey respectively. I added a second lighter grey to the grey boxes for more contrast. Once everything dried, I hit everything with a satin dull coat from Krylon, as I wanted a bit of a sheen.

These are inexpensive (especially when you wait for the sales) and paint up easily. As such, they work out as a nice add to any 28mm sci fi terrain collection. With their large size, they give plenty of cover options, either by themselves or stacked.
