I was in Micheals looking over the Safari monster toys the other day (looking for a dinosaur) and looked over their doll house further rack that was next to the toys. I noticed some bags of pots in plastic bags that were being sold for only two dollars each. The price was right, so I picked up the four packs on the rack. I also had a 20% off coupon, so that made them even cheaper.
Each bag had four different styles pots and pitchers. They were caste in a red brown plastic resin. Figured these would look good as ground terrain on my skirmish terrain boards in Mediterranean setting. I already have a few, but you never have enough and the price was right.
Next step was to paint the models. I liked the casting color, so decided I would try to use that as a base. I sprayed all the pots with some Krylon dull coat to give a surface for a wash and paint to stick to. So, I hit all the pots with GW brown wash, as the next step. I then dryburshed the pots with some red brown from Vallejo to tone down the wash and finished with a lighter Vallejo color to give some depth. With that all done, I hit them all with some dull coat to seal them.
With that, some more throw terrain that is inexpensive and resilient to game use. I am always on the lookout for toys and other hobby products to sue for my gaming needs. These are often cheaper than miniature game company offerings and often in more resilient for regular use. So, the next time you are in a store, take a walk through the toy section and see what you can find. If any one questions you, you can always just say you are looking for a present for your son, nephew, friend, martian, etc.!
