While waiting for my order of Dwarves infantry to arrive, I started to work on supporting elements of my army. The first of these was large stone golems from MoM Miniaturas. I bought these online, while looking for figures to use for my T9A army list. I have seen people use bear riders, steam suits, etc. However, as soon as I read the unit listing, all I could think of was animated stone statues! A little time searching and I found these models and promptly ordered them.
The figures are case in hard grey resin. Being larger figures, they should hold up well. You can order them as individuals or as single models. These are part of the same line as the statures I posted some time back. Each is a single piece castings. They all have flash, but it is mostly the thin type that is very easy to remove. Being stone, there is no need to take take particular care, as what is another chip?
I glued mine to some old GW 40mm bases that I had and sprayed everything with gray primer from Krylon. I set them aside and pulled them out again, once I new my other dwarves were being shipped. Being stone, nothing complicated was needed. I started with a black wash and then hit that with a few layers of grey dry brush. I then went back with some spot green and brown GW washes to add some character to the stone. I then hit the models again with the lightest dry brush.
Next was the basing. I planned these using the same basing as my future troops. So, I covered the bases with Vallejo brown mud pumice and then hit it with two lighter dry brushes. I then attached different colors of Gamers Grass flowers to give that highland plaint effect. At this point, I thought it was a good idea to add some flock to the models themselves, to give that aged moss grown look.
Hit everything with some semi gloss sealer. Looking over the models, I thought they needed something else, so I went and painted all the round bits as gems, using GW technical paint. I followed that up with a white dot on the gems to give the reflective effect.
With that, I have my golems ready to go. I like the models very much and am glad I made the choice to buy these.
