Another day, another basing project! Next on the list was two units of Westwind Miniatures 28mm Highland Dwarves. I saw these being offered by Old Glory Miniatures some time back and thought I had to have them after seeing them at a convention (boy has time passed..). So, I ordered a few bags to use as the starting point of my new fantasy Dwarf army!

The figures arrived and I noticed that they are actually quite large! I was a little worried about them fitting on bases, but did some test fitting and saw that all was good (they use diagonal poses to fit in units). Upon more thought, I decided that I really did not want to paint all those kilts! So, off to Fernando painting service they would go! I typed up the painting instructions and sent them off. I opted to go with an overall dark grey look for the army with some read thrown in for color. On the kilts, I opted for a grey and black pattern (after looking at different patterns online).

A few months and a number of approvals went by and the figures were finished and returned to me. I decided to use up by backlog of old GF9 magnetic bases on the figures. I sprayed these all dark brown and then fired and glue down all the figures. Later, I covered the bases with Vallejo dark mud (my new favorite pumice). I hit each bases with an earth tone followed by a tan dry brush. Next I added some Scenic Express blended turf and finally tufts. I wanted my dwarves to look like they were fighting on the highlands, so only flowers would do! I pulled out various shades from Gamers Grass and attached them. With that, I have some highland Dwarves!
