A little more painting and a little more terrain. I picked up the vital assets set at my FLGS to get some terrain for my Star Wars terrain set ups. The set comes with various boxes, carts and minions. Who could pass up on having some space mines! There are also two figures that are to be used as hostages. As with other terrain sets, this one includes special rules and scenarios to use the terrain in your games of Legion. I think this is a great ploy (I mean options)… Seriously, it is a nice way to get more scenarios and points of interest in one set. Of course I am sure FFG does not making some money too!
The set comes molded in grey hard plastic, with all the pieces on sprues. They are easy to remove and being simple models, easy to assemble. You actually have the option of building the mines in two ways, open panel or closed. I chose the closed models and just painted the open panels separately to use as more terrain! As mentioned earlier, you get all the cards and chits you need to incorporate these into your games, should you desire. Alternatively, you can just add them to your table.
You also get the two hostages that represent Clone Wars characters. They can be complex or difficult paint jobs, depending on your personal preference. I decided to paint the CIS namoidian as Lok Durd, as I wanted to have the option of putting him in my AAT tank (there is an upgrade options for this). The model is on the thin side, but I figured that you would not notice that if you stuck him in the tank. Unfortunately, me being me, I glued him to the base to help painting. However I glued him to good… So, that plan was set aside (unless I decide to pull out the clippers, which is a possibility.
As with most terrain, I wanted to keep it simple. So after assembly all the models (using plastic glue), I sprayed most of them medium grey, with a few white items. The grey models were hit with a black wash and dry brushed up with lighter shades of grey. The white were sprayed white and hit with GW contrast white, then painted up with white highlights. I went back and painted some lights and switches white, black and red to add some flavor. Some spray dull coat and they are all done. The figures do all come with bases to be used in the game. However, I left these off, as I think it looks funny when using them as terrain. I can always stick them on the bases if I need them for a given scenarios, so I have maximum flexibility.
I actually forgot about the two characters (I put them in another box), so had to go back and paint them last night! The two characters were sprayed tan and then hit from the top with white spray. I used various GW contrast paints on both and highlighted them up with the matching colors. I then went back and painted some details. I won’t go into all the color choices, as I was just trying to keep it simple. I did try to go with the color pallet for Lok Durd from the clone wars, but Riyo Chuchi was just the colors that I wanted to try out (I did stay with the correct skin colors though.
This is yet another nice set from FFG supporting Star Wars Legion. At this rate, I am going to be in the poor house if they keep this up! However, if you want some extra terrain and/or scenario options for your Legion games, you cannot go wrong with this set.
