As seems to have become a meme, I was visiting my local FLGS for some paint and I took a look at the Reaper display rack. Saw something new and was compelled to buy it! This trip it was the new Bones Black Dreadmere Fishing Boat. Looking at the kit, I saw it was nice sized and thought it would look good on my gaming table, so to the cashier I went.
The boat comes in the usual grey Bone Black semi soft resin. As is common with the line, the relief detail is excellent. This is a multi part kit that goes together quite easily. You get he main boat, the front spar with light, two oars, a fish basket and some extra fish. Everything fits together well. The oars had be attached or kept separate, as you need them.
I decided to try something different with this model, as I wanted something that contrasts with my usual unbleached wood on my already painted models. Thought it would be a good opportunity to try out using GW contrast paints as a base and work it up. This would save me a wash step, so it was worth a shot. So, I sprayed the entire model (after assembly) with Krylon tan to get a primer base. A few days later, I pulled it out to work on it, as I was waiting for some other minis to dry. I hit the entire model with contrast paint dry brown. I let them sit for a while (contrast paints do take a little more time than other paints to dry). Once it looked like the paint set, I then hit the entire model with a shade of medium brown and then some light grey. I then pulled out some tan and hit the basket and net sections. I followed this up with some contrast black on the light and turquoise on the fish. Looking at the model, I decided I wanted something else, so I hit the outer hull (with the exception of the patch planks) with some GW Reikland Flesh to give the look of red staining. I was happy with that and sprayed the model with some Krylon flat coat. Now I have yet another boat for Pulp and Fantasy gaming.
Overall, it is a nice little kit. Looks great, goes together easily and is easy to paint. On top of that, it is only five bucks! What is not to like!
