Another shopping trip to my FLGS and another few purchases! I stopped by to pick up some contrast paints for my current painting project and saw the new Gale Force Nine Caverns of Ice set on the new shelf.
I looked over the set and thought it might work for a couple of pulp scenarios. Thirty bucks is not to steep and the set looked large enough to start with.
I got the set home and opened it up to see what it “really” looked like. I find that most GF9 terrain needs a little pimping to get it up to snuff (some more, some less), so I figures these would need a lot of work. Much to my surprise, the paint job looks fine and I thought it would fit the bill.
I did find the set a little flat and need of some shining up! So I just sprayed them with some Krylon satin coat spray paint. Once that dried, I hit the water portion with some GW gloss coat to give is a more wet look. That was it and they are ready to go!
The set contains nine pieces that you can use for 15-28mm gaming. They come wrapped in bubble wrap and tape for protection. The models appear to be made of clear blue resin, with the details painted in white. They are fine out of the box, but a little spray shine goes a long way. If your in the market for a set of ice stalagmites, this is a good set for you!
