I finally finished my Guardia Civil, but still had my plain Nationalist Infantry. These figures were base painted, but still needed their details painted (rifles, pouches and helmets). These would give me a decent sized force for SCW gaming, so it was time to wrap these up. When we did the SCW gaming, back in the day, everyone wanted all the specialist troops and no one had just regular infantry. So, I picked up regular Nationalist infantry and cavalry to fill in that gap.
I started simple block painting and mounted these on metal washers. We moved on and these ended up in the same box as the mostly done Guardia Civil. The time finally came for me to finish these guys.
I looked over the figures and finished the necessary block painting. As with the other figures, I have to say that these particular castes are not very good by today’s standards. The details are not as crisp as I would like and the faces are quite bad. With that in mind, I just could not bring myself to spend a lot of time on these. However, I needed to get these to a better standard and finish them.
So, since everything was already painted, to me the simple solution was to go with washes. This is sufficient for 20mm figures most of the time, so that was my choice. I hit the uniforms with GW camo shade to get the uniform a little more green (the original green grey was too grey). I hit the flesh with GW sepia and then touched up the black here and there. Next, I ballasted the bases, washed them with Woodland Scenics umber, followed by a dry brush of tan. I hit the age with medium brown and then applied Scenic Express flock/grass mix. The next steps was to paint the helmets in Vallejo Russian Uniform. A final Dull Coat and they are finally done and really ready for the tabletop. Now, I seem to recall that I have some T-26s someplace……
