While shopping online on eBay, I came across a sale from DPS on some African Colonial Volunteers. Looking at the set, I thought the figures would work well in my pulp gaming as NPCs. I put in a minimum bid and managed to win them. After about a week, they arrived in a box packed in foam.
DPS does a nice job with their paint jobs and are all over Ebay. Unfortunately, their pricing always seems a little high to me and I generally do not like their basing. However, they often do sale bids, if you have the patience. So, if you like a figure, just wait until they go on bid. You will save yourself a lot of money.
Looking over the figures, I thought I would hit a few with a light spot wash to give a little more variation in colors, as they were a little to uniform. I then snipped them off their bases and mounted them on new 32mm bases. This was just so they matched my current collection.
I then did my usual pumice tan on the bases. Hit that with a brown wash and then dry brushed these with sand yellow. I followed that with a little flock/grass mix from Scenic Effects. A little Dull Coat and I have some more dudes for the tabletop!
