Another visit to my FLGS, another random purchase! After finding the paint that I was looking for, I took a walk around the store as usual to see what was new. Looking at the Bones rack, I saw the Giant Beetle miniature and thought that would be an easy paint and interesting piece for either pulp or fantasy gaming, so I picked it up!

The miniature is in the usual Bones black grey semi soft plastic and works well for these larger pieces. It comes as a one piece model attached to the base. There is no flash to clean up, so it is ready to go right out of the pack.

I initially thought that I was going to use the model in a new fantasy army I was thinking about, so I took out my snips and tried back the base, so I could mount it on a square base. From there, I just sprayed the entire model with black primer. I then painted the base grey (since it was rock) and later hit the entire thing with a black wash. This was followed up by some dark grey highlights on the black and mid to light on the base.

As I am known to do, I changed my mind at this point on the use and decided to go back to a round base… I found a large 60mm base an attached the figure. I then added tan pumice so the figure would match my Pulp figure basing. Hit that with a little brown wash and dry brushed it up with tan. I then attached my usual green static/flock mix from Scenic Effects. A spray of Krylon flat sealer (which is satin) and all done! I of course could have just used the original base, but who am I not to waste time unnecessarily! Minor set back, but it worked out in the end. I now have a big bug for pulp gaming! It’s a nice model, at a really good price, and I would recommend it if your looking for a large bug!
