So, I actually had another set of foam rock terrain….. The rocks I painted last month were the first half of the inventory. I split up the rocks to give me two different color options, depending on the type of terrain I was setting up. I found a couple of these at a convention flea market and supplemented the inventory with more that I found on Amazon railroad terrain listings (a continuing source for wargaming needs).
The models are all are made of caste spray foam. This provides a very light weight terrain piece the is both rugged and detailed. If your looking for large rocks outcroppings, this is a great way to go.
All the pieces in this set came unpainted. I got them in the mail and stuck them in a box. With my current push to clear up some of my backlog of terrain, I decided that I would finish these also and clear up some storage.
Some models came unpainted, with two primed grey. I hit all of them with some grey spray primer from Krylon and shoved them in a storage box for quite some time…..Once I decided to go ahead and work on them, I covered them all with dark grey wash from woodland scenics (this would have been better over a white undercoat)
I decided to adry brush all of them with various shaded of gray, with browns for the tree trunks on the one piece. I then went back with some dark brown and camo green shades from GW and hit various recesses, just to give a little character. I then hit them with a sealer coat. Quick paint job and now I have some nice terrain to break up my boards. If your looking for some large blocking terrain for your boards, you cannot go wrong with foam hills, just look them up on Amazon. You will not be disappointed!
