The next army on the list of Epic projects was my Grey Knight army. I always wanted this type of force, as I wanted a silver armor based army with a splash of color. With the release of 40k Apocalypse data cards, I saw the Grey Knight listing and I was set.
With that, I went through my old unpainted minis and pulled out the Marine figures I thought would work. Seeing that I did not have the “look” or composition I wanted. However, I was not thwarted, as I knew there were some third party minis I could tap into. In this case, I went to Onslaught Miniatures and ordered some of they armored infantry to fill to the Terminators and transports to fill out my Landraiders. I wanted a different, but familiar look for my Landraiders to fit the special feel of the army and these worked well.
The Onslaught vehicles come with plenty of extra guns! This gave me another idea! I had a lot of plastic Whirlwind models in my collection and knew I would never use them. Using those models, I replaced the launches with the extra twin lascannon weapons and now I have plenty of Razorbacks that better match the current 40k look than the older Epic castings.
I also had a few second generation Thunderhawks that I thought would make good Thundertalon aircraft (I will save the much larger third generation models for Thunderhawks in another army. They have that marine look and smaller size to fit the role perfectly.
Superglue to finish building all the vehicles. With all the models assembled, it was time to work on the army. First I spray painted all the minis silver. I then sprayed all the infantry and Dreadnaught bases brown. A little white glue and all the infantry was on bases (helps fill in gaps).
I then painted details on all the models using whit, red, black and bronze. I then hit all the models with a floss black GW armor wash. I thought the Landraiders needed a decal or two, so added these. I then flocked all the troop bases and hit the army with some satin coat sealer. Now my Grey Knights are ready to go!
