Got together with a buddy of mine for some socially distanced gaming at my house. We had been discussing playing Epic with our Apocalypse rules for a while and decided that we could pull it off with some precautions in these interesting times.
So, we decided for the minimum points allowance, since we had only played once before and it was quite some time ago. I set up some terrain on a 5′ x 7′ matt to allow a reasonable amount of cover. I placed some buildings here and there, some alien forests, rock outcroppings and scatter terrain.
We both then put together our forces using the unit cards. The Marines had three detachments and the Necrons five. One Necron detachment was held back for deep strike. Once we both had our armies, we then pulled out the command cards (30 each).
We then decided on the scenario. We would both place three objectives and would have to destroy the ones in our opponents set up area. We then did set up, with the Marines placing the first unit. We alternated back and forth.
Rolling off, the Necrons got the first move. The Necrons massed their forces on the left and attempted to overwhelm the flanking Marine biker force, while pinning the rest of the Marine line. The Marines in turn advance across the front to try to use their qualitative advantage.
The Marines pressed forward, while the Necrons started to establish their flank attack advantage by crippling the bikes and whittling down the Marine dreadnoughts.
With the flank almost cleared, the Necrons pushed forward towards their first objective, as the Marines continued to advance. The Marine terminators entered the main city to engage the Necrons holding the flank, only to watch deep-striking Necrons to steal the objective behind them.
The Marines fought into the city slowly clearing the buildings of Necrons. The Necrons tried to remove the outer ring Marine defenders and attrit the Marines in the town. The game ended on turn six, as set in the scenario. The Marines had run out of town in around their first objective, while the Necrons tried to take their third. The game ended with a Neuron victory!
