I am always on the lookout for inexpensive terrain features for my gaming terrain collection. While at my FLGS, I came across a new set from Wiz Kids. It is a set of four pillars and one ruin. Each pillar has a banner. I liked the look of the figures in the package and the price was not terrible, so I picked up the two sets on the shelf.
The set is made of the same semi soft light grey plastic that Wiz Kids uses for a lot of this range. The banners have to be attached to the pillars (each pillar has a hole to attach the banners to. I was not going to do the banners, but decided I did not want to fill the holes, so decided to paint them.
The kit has a bit of flash on the top of the pillars, but is clear otherwise. I did some scraping and then spayed them with light grey spray paint. I then hit them with a black wash and hit a few points with brown and camo green washes. Once the washes dried, I hit the models with a few shades of grey drybrush. I then used the new GW contract paint dark red on the banners (these paints work well, but due take a little while to dry). I hit the end of the poles with black. I considered doing more, but decided that was enough for the intended purpose (pulp gaming). Hit everthing with a sealer coat and now I have a whole bunch of pillars in my collection!
Not a bad set at all. The detail is script and obvious. The models paint up easy. The price point is “OK”, not great. However, if you need some accessory terrain, it is not a bad addition to your collection.
