I took a little break last week from the family and did some model building. I decided to start my work on some American tanks and opted for the Rubicon M4A3 Sherman. This would be my first ever build of US armor in this scale, so thought I would share it! And hope it did not turn into a disaster!
Like most Rubicon models, the kit comes with multiple build options. One can make the M4A3 with three suspension options (HVSS, VVSS, VVSS with grousers). It also has two turret options for early or late versions. As I have two kits, I decided to build two versions.
I tend to like a lot of extra stowage and bits on my models. With that in mind, I purchased some accessories kits from Value Gear. This included sand bag and log armor and stowage. These accessories are resin casts and simple to glue onto the finished kit. I like the extra bit of interest they give the model.
Once the kits were assembled, I sprayed them with Krylon Camo OD Green. I then painted the treads, details and stowage using various Valejo color paints. I then did pin washes to the tank and hit all the extra bits with full washes.
Next up were the decals. First I painted the gloss coat on the application area to help with the bonding of the decals. I then applied the decals and used Solviset to set them.
Once all decals were set, I drybrushed the details with the appropriate matching colors and hit the whole kit with a tan overall dry brush. A little Testors Dull Coat and I have two tanks ready for the table!
