I somewhat recently finished the troops for a Belgian Infantry company for Flames of War. However, I still needed to assemble and paint the vehicles for the formation. Battlefront actually never produced the 1940 Belgian guns and vehicles, so I needed to find another source. Searching way on the Google machine, I came across the QRG line and put in an order for platoons of different vehicles and batteries of guns. With some time on my hands, I sat down and got to work on the force.

All the vehicles arrived in about a week from jolly old England. QRG models are all metal and packaged in clear plastic bags with labels. Most of the models came in multiple parts and required some assembly. The casts are pretty crisp with a decent amount of detail. This is really true for the guns, which are very nice models.

The builds were all straight forward. The flash was quite heavy on all the vehicles, showing a bit of mold wear. I hit each with a hobby knife to deal with the worst of the flash, but there are also alignment problems that require some heave filing and blending. I did not have it in me to do that for models that would not get a lot of use, so I decided to accept some of the faults.

I sprayed all the models with a khaki drab spray paint and hit them all with a brown wash. I opted for a base gray on the treads to reflect dull metal base and washed them in black ink. I then painted various details here and their. I affixed some old I94 Belgian air plane decals to flush them out. I finished off the models with a tan dry brush and sealed them with Dull Coat. They turned out a little lighter than I was shooting for (even lighter in the photos!), but they will do!

Overall, the kits are competitively priced and give a nice option for odd vehicles in FOW armies. They go together quite easily. The down side is really the flash. With some work, you can get them to look presentable, but if you have another choice, you might consider that to avoid the work. With that said, the guns are fantastic and are a definite go!

Now, I’m ready for the next 1940 game with some Belgians. I will just use equivalent the French stats, since BF never did the army. So, now we have the whole west front covered!

Nicely done. Now I’ll have to move up work on a Belgian infantry/cavalry company to compliment your armor.
Oh, the Belgian Infantry company was finished first!
