Continuing on my Epic Tyranid army update, I have finished all the infantry to go along with the vehicles shown in the earlier part 1 update. So, here in all their glory are the hordes of Tyranid infantry!
Almost all the models are first edition Tyranid Epic models. I think this totals five boxes of troops from the old offering (they can still be found on Ebay for those so inclined). I also had a few second edition models painted up that I had painted for support troops.
This army did not have the unit upgrades like the older Eldar, so basing was quite straight forward and I did not see any need to make changes. There are a few models that are fielded in units, but are too big to base as units, so I will leave them as singles. Fortunately, all the troops match up to the current army lists, so nothing special has to be done to make them work.
As this batch is just infantry, all models are mounted. In this case, all the models are mounted on white metal bases. This makes them easier to store on magnetic sheets and makes them easy to glue down (no squeezing into holes) and ensures all bases are the same style. Finally, it is much easier to get the right size base for the troops!
I went through all the models and added washes to each to either brighten them up or dull them down (depending on the troop type and desired outcome). I then flocked all the bases and hit the entire group with a satin finish to give it more of a bug like semi shiny effect.
When I painted these originally, the GW inspired point jobs had different schemes for the different troop types, with a focus on red and blue. While GW has gone more with the universal scheme for their armies these days, this will work for me to easier identify the troops on the tabletop, especially when playing with so many bases. The basing should tie in the army in any case. With this, the army is ready for the tabletop!
