Another Wednesday night and even more Wings of War (Glory). An old wargaming buddy was in town last Wednesday and looking for a friendly game with the old gang. I thought it would be good to bring out Wings of War again, as it was an easy game that we all could play.
As usual, the scenarios go quick, so we were able to get it three games in a short amount of time.
The first game was a simple bomb and leave scenario. A German single engine bomber had to bomb a building and return to base. The allies had two Neuport 23s tasked with shooting down the bomber. The French players were both a little off on their plots and the German plane was able to bomb the target, turn around and out run the Neuports. Game one to the Germans!
Game two was a little different, this time, the two Neuports were to intercept two German bombers before they could return back to their lines. The French needed to shoot down one plane to win, while both would be a major win. Once again, the French took their approach a little too wide and allowed the Germans to maneuver through, while shooting up the separated French along the way. Game two to the Germans!
Game three was a simple fighter sweep. Two French Neuport 23s vs two German Albatross DIIIs. This time the French came straight in and tight! The Albatrosses were able to concentrate their fire on on Neuport and bring it down, with nominal damage to themselves. The other Neuport returned the favor with deadly accurate fire on the first Albatross and then the second. Game three to the French!
Always a fun game and so quick to play and set up! All three games were played in under two hours, including set up and clean up! This really is the perfect system to just have some fun with. The key is to play scenarios, to keep things fresh and planes engaged. Luckily, the rule book as some of these and it’s easy to add your own!
