I found a pack of Woodland Scenics terrain marked down 50% and thought it would be a nice addition to my terrain. Being HO, it should fit well with either 15mm or 20mm gaming (I included a 25mm figure, just to show scale). The set is a number of white metal parts that must be assembled or used to decorate other terrain or models. Each part has some minor flash that is easy to remove. Each part is well caste. One part of the kit is a rail cart, which requires some assembly. The kit comes in a small bubble pack, so easy to open.
To keep it simple, I build the cart and then glued all the other bits on top of the larger pieces. Being smallish, may be tricky for some, but I found it easy to just glue the parts all together. The cart takes a small amount of care, but everything is quite straight forward to glue together with super glue.
Being scrap metal, one can either go with a lot of detail painting or a simple rust and wood scheme. I opted to go the simple route and am happy with what I have. I did some subtle differences between the wood and metal highlights that do not show up well in the photo, but are obvious in real life.
At $8.99, the retail price is a little high for my taste, but the only downside. As I got mine on sale, that was not an issue! Putting that aside, the kit is very detailed, rather straight forward to put together and paint. Finally, it will look good on any game board that has a railroad track or yard. To me, this makes it a very nice add on. Overall, I would rate the kit as a 4 out of 5 railroad ties!
