I was on the Game Kastle website recently scrolling through their sale items. While doing so, I came across a terrain box set that was marked down to twenty bucks that looked interesting, so I pulled the trigger and ordered it. The information on the site was somewhat limited. I just knew it was named the Drakeries terrain set. I do not know anything about the game and a quick internet search did not help, so I was going on faith! The box arrived and I opened it up to see that the models were good sized and quality. The pieces have a little bit of heft and much heavier than plastic kits, but they are much lighter than anything in resin the same size. Looking at each piece, I could see the detail was excellent. For me, they look like a great option for any 25mm gaming battlefield.
The models themselves are mostly single caste, so little assembly is required. The only part that requires assembly is the tree (you have to glue on the branches). Otherwise, everything is ready out of the box. They are made from a semi hard heavy plastic (similar to Bones figures). Detail is very nice and crisp. Very little flash to worry about also.
I went with a simple paint job to get them game ready. I started with a Grey spray paint covering using enamel paint. This is both the primer and base coat (I tend to do this with terrain to speed the painting process). Once that dried, I hit the stone with some black wash and the wood with a heavy brown wash. I then did a little spot washes with GW camo green wash. I let that dry and hit the full models with a medium grey drybrush, followed by a light grey to pick up the highlights. I picked out a few of the metal details with dark metallic silver. I then finished up with the ground, which I painted brown and drybrushed with earth and then some light tan. I added some flock along the edges and spray dull coated everything. I still need to go back and paint the other two pieces (I misplaced them while cleaning up, but have since found them), but they should go just as fast.
All together, they are nice and well detailed models that will look good on most any 28mm gaming table. I give them five out of five stones, especially if you can get them for 60% off like me!
