While looking for a mini in my box of old toys, I came across a couple of old “Army Men” rafts. I have had them since I was a little kid and just never threw them away. Looking at them, I noticed that they had a very nice canvas texture to them and were not terrible in the detail department (probably why I still had them….). Looking at them, I thought they would work fine in a Pulp game as miscellaneous ground terrain.
The old toys are made out of semi hard plastic. As the models are simple, there will be no issues with bending and chipping. One model was tan and the other green plastic. I decided that I would just paint them tan, to keep it simple and quick.
I started spray painting both models with Krylon Camoflage Tan. I then through on a Sepia wash and let that dry. I drybrushed the whole model with Tamiya Dark Tan and then with a highlight of Vallejo Iraqi Sand. I went back and painted ropes with Vallejo Bone and hit the oars with a dark brown wash. A little metallic on the air canister and some Dull Coat over the whole model. Couple minutes and all done.
I’m not saying that these things will win any awards, but considering how cheap you can find them for in stores or online, they are worth a look if you are looking for some cheap boat models!
