A call has gone out from King Leopold of Belgium. He is hiring hunters to help with in a great expedition into the Congo. The bounty is high and well worth the trip it seems… Only the best need apply! Arriving at Kinshassa, the various teams are briefed on the nature of the mission. It seems that the King needs and area cleared of wild gorillas that are terrorizing the local population (in reality, he want to dig a diamond mine..). Each expedition will be paid handsomely for each gorilla or monkey subdued (meaning killed). trophies will need to be presented before payment is made. In addition, the group that comes back with the largest gorilla kill will get a bonus! What could be easier! With that said, the area also is the home of the rare black leopard. This animal is of special interest to the British Crown, so much care must be taken to not harm these animals. The race is a foot, can your team come back with the largest hall and biggest prize? It’s time to crack on and show the others what for!
Time for another In Her Majesties Name Pulp game. This one had been long in the making, as we were unable to get together the last few pulp nights to play the game. However, the stars finally aligned and I was able to get the game in. This scenario was designed to be competitive, but not so much of a fight as a number of our earlier games. The rules were straight forward. There were six clues on the table. One clue was D3 black panthers, two weer D6 monkeys, two where D6 Gorillas and the final was the Great Ape. A successful pluck check would uncover the clue as normal.
Each monkey or gorilla killed and contacted would give 2 points. The great ape would give 20. Killing a black leopard would be -2 points and killing an opponents figure would be -1 points. Each team also would roll their secondary objectives. Each team would start the game with three hides in their camp and would start the game in their camps. If a team shot a target and did not move into contact, the buzzard would decimate it the next turn on a 50% roll. As such, players needed to make sure they could get into contact. In addition, each model could only carry three prizes. These would need to be taken to camp. Prizes could be stolen from downed player models or from enemy camps (there is no honor in the Congo!) The player with the most points would win!
We had three teams. Each team started opposite from each other in their camps and moved out out to get hunting. Each worked the table and slowly found the clues and collected the prices.
Lord Huffington’s team had a particular hard time of it, as the wildlife proved a bit to tough for them. They managed to get pretty beat up and found that their camp had been looted to boot! They were able to claim half the great ape, so the expedition was not a total loss.
Colonel Archibald Smith’s team had more luck and were able to bag a decent number of pelts (along with looting Lord Huffington’s amp). Theodore Rosenfeldt’s team was the most successful. They managed to take a lot of pelts, claimed half the great ape and even slipped into Colonel’s Smith’s camp and liberated their pelts! The high point came when Johhny Jensen ran into a wall and took himself out of the game, thus giving the team their secondary objective!
