I came across an old Dazed miniature Great Ape model at the most recent Historicon conventions. I was happy for the find, as the model is no longer in production (as far as I know). I had been looking for a large gorilla model for some time, as I thought it would make a great Pulp Fiction gaming mini.
Well, unlike many of my ideas and purchases, this one actually was painted no too long after purchase (I often get distracted!). As it was something that would only be used sparely, I decided to go with a simple paint job to get the job done. I started off with a primer/base coat of Krylon Black spray paint.
I hit the whole miniature with a GW black wash to make sure it was a black as could be. From their it was just dry brusing a few shades of grey on the different areas (skin and fir). After that, I painted the mouth in reds and whites, with the necessary shading and highlights. A little Vallejo tan pumice on the base, then a brown wash, couple of tan dry brushes and some static grass/flock mix. Hit the whole thing with some Testor’s Dull Coat and the model is good to go. Probably will go back and add some ground tufts to make the base a little more interesting at some point, but that will have to wait, as I a off on my next painting adventure!

Awesome! That’s a great model, I look forward to a battle report with him!
It’s in the queue!
