Starting at the beginning of the year, I have been running a multi-player pulp fiction game once every month. I found the right rules (IHMN) to ensure a fast and easy game. Painted the figures and would create scenarios. However, I ran into some challenges. Firstly, IHMN has a limited number of scenarios (so I had to create my own). Secondly, I never know how many players would be showing up to play (making scenario design a challenge). With that in mind, I decided to come up with a Expedition Generator. Each player would bring their 150 team and roll for their mission. With enough missions to choose from and the somewhat random generation, it really ensured that each game was different (even if played on the same table with the same figures). With out any fanfare, I am sharing the table here for your enjoyment!
Expedition Generator
Each Player Roll 1D10 for Expedition: 1 Revenge
2-6 Treasure Hunt
7-8 Mapping
9 Heroic
10 Rivalry
Place 6 Clues on the table. None within 8” of another. Two Clues are Artifacts worth 5VP (If a player has both Artifacts at the end of the game, they score a bonus 10VP). Two Clues are Traps (model must take a Pluck test, if failed, falls down and takes another Pluck +2 test, dies if it fails the second roll). One Clue is a trinket of no value. One Clue is a monster/guardian (choose model and stats as appropriate) that will attack closest model with an Artifact.
Revenge – A rival team has tortured and killed one of your closest friends in a most gruesome way. You want revenge. Randomly choose an enemy player group at the beginning of the game. They must not end the game with more models on the table than you. You receive 20VP if you fulfill your objective.
Treasure Hunt- You are in search of a lost artifact. When checking for a clue, if you roll a 1-2, you have found it. If you have not found it, the last uncovered clue is automatically the artifact. You must find it with one of your figures to fulfill your objective. There can only be one lost artifact in play, even if multiple players have this mission. You receive 20VP if you fulfill your objective.
Mapping – You have been hired to scout out terrain for a future expedition. Divide the table equally into six 24”x24”squares. You must explore 4 of the squares and move back to your entry table edge. To explore a square, you must have at least one model in that square at the end of a turn. The model must not have run, shot or fought in close combat. If you have explored all the table squares and can exit the table with 1 of your models, you have fulfilled your objective and will receive 20VP.
Heroic – You have to defend the local village / temple and prevent a rival force from desecrating the site. Choose one enemy team and one structure in the center of the table at the beginning of the game. Starting on turn 4, at the end of each turn, roll 1D10. If the die roll is below the turn number and there are no models from the enemy team within 2” of the chosen structure, you have fulfilled your objective and receive 20VP.
Rivalry – You have been informed that your biggest rival is approaching to steal a sacred artifact in your possession. You have sworn to stop them. Randomly choose a rival team at the beginning of the game. If they have lost their leader as casualties and your leader is still in play at the end of the game, you have fulfilled your objective and score 20VP.
