I finished up my 17th century European army a little while ago on the new basing. Now that we have V&F gaming in the period under our belt, I decided to do the same for my Ottoman army. Ironically, I had just rebased the troops last year and filled out the army. However, I was not happy with the rules we were using and I did not like the aesthetic of the basing, who using mixed units. So, the switch made sense.

The idea when using V&F, is that everything is mounted on a 40mm square. When troops are on the same exact bases, if simplifies a lot of game mechanic issues. It also gives the advantage of working with different troop density levels, to give the aesthetic of different types and quality of troops.

I pulled out the remainder of the bases I had. It was clear I did not have enough for the whole army, so I ordered a bunch more bases from Shogun Miniatures. In the meantime, I got started on the cavalry portion of the army (which is just over half the troops).

First, I had to pop everything off the old bases. I use white glue for basing, so this usually is not too hard. have done enough rebasing over the years for different games, so I found it was wise to go with white glue. A little Xacto work and that was done. I also had a bunch of figures that I had done earlier and added them to the stacks of troops.

I pulled out all the bases and sprayed them with dark brown krylon. The idea was that the side of the bases would still show in brown and would give an area to grab. A few dabs of glue and I was off. the heavy cavalry was all mounted four to the base. Some of the axillary cavalry was three to the base and all the light cavalry is two to a base.

I added flock to each base with paint and flocking. After that dried, I followed with some white glue and mixed turf to wrought up the bases. I finished with a spray with dull coat to seal everything. With that, the cavalry is done and I just need to get my other bases to finish the army!
