The plan was to hit Busch Gardens at two for the Christmas event. With that, we had the morning to kill and I opted for a stop at the Virginia War Museum. It was on the way and I have not been there in over ten years. Sp, after a nice breakfast, I was off to the museum!
I pulled into the parking lot and headed into the museum. It has been renovated, since the last time I was there. However, the contents are still there and well displayed (just more professionally). The main hall is broken up to follow the US military through its various conflicts, with artifacts being available for all the major ones.
There is a separate section for displaying artifacts from other WWII combatants during the Second World War. Quite impressive, as it includes a number of uniforms and pieces of equipment from the secondary nationalities.
Next there is a large room that contains a number of pieces of ordinance and a few vehicles from various nationalities. Most are in the open and easy to walk up to. Some are behind barriers, but this does not stop you from getting very close!
Once I finished with the inside, I went out and walked around the building to check out the various pieces of ordnance on display outside. There are also a few monuments (mostly in the attached park) to check out. With that, I headed out! Another nice museum to check out if you have two to four hours and would like to check out military equipment. It is only about thirty minutes down the road from Busch Gardens, so an easy diversion!
