While at Historicon, I came across a vendor that was selling dungeon terrain. One of the things they had was a few different types of fire pits. These were battery powered led lights under a translucent orange flame casting. All sits within a grey resin pit structure. They also have an ash insert, in case you want to play them as burnt out. I really liked them, so bought all they had left! Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me remember the company name…..

Well, I pulled these out recently to finish them up. I started by spraying the pits gray. Next came a black wash, which was followed by a few shades of gray drybrush. I thought about some counter washes, but decided it was just a distraction from the light, so skipped it.

Next I drybrushed the orange flames with some red, for more depth. I was thinking of a yellow wash to lighten up the interior of the flames, but figured that would be counter productive by dulling the lighting. So, I let that part stand. I thought about doing something with the metal caging (it comes in black resin). However, once again, I decided it was not needed. So, in the end, just a quick pimping up of the stone work and a red highlight on the flames.

With that, the pits are ready for my pulp table. They come with the batteries, so you just leave them outside the light until you are ready. Slide them in the light fixture, drop that in the pit, place the flame on top and finish with the caging and you are ready to go!
