Back when I was building forces for T9A, I decided to group up the various Viking armies that I had for Saga and field a Chaos Marauder themed army. I added various gribblies to fill out the list as a norse based army. One of the units that I never got round to finishing was a unit of cavalry for the army.
Due to some repair/remodeling issues with my home and a general redirection of hobby effort to other games, the army was put away out of reach. Well, the work on the house finally finished and I could get back to all my stored minis. However, more importantly, Games Workshop recently released the Warriors of Chaos supplementary army book. This book included a norse marauder based variant of the standard list. Specifically, the Warriors of the Sea army list. Well, this made my existing army viable again (even though I will need to do a little rebasing).
This re-motivated me to finish the cavalry unit. This was something I had in a box that was almost done, I just could not decide what to do with them. In actuality, I did not paint this unit. I had some Gothic Cavalry from Old Glory and gave them to a Lee Howard Painting Service for painting. I just did some minor details and highlights. I am considering converting the spears to flails, I just have to find where I put my flail bits! I will simply remove the spear heads and attach the painted flail parts later.
I got some GW 30x60mm cavalry bases. I sprayed these brown and attached cavalry models. I then matched the basing of my existing viking figures using AK pumice. I finished them up with a little drybrush, some rocks, some flock and tufts.
With that, I have the Huscarls unit for the army. I can still using them in historical gaming if I want, at least until I replace the spears! I need to go back on monsters, but that is a project for another day!
