I was waiting at the Brigade Games booth at Historicon for a couple buddies to meet up with me, so we could get some lunch. While waiting, I saw they carried some of the Painting War series of magazines. To kill time, I thought I would take a Quick Look. I had seen these before, but never really looked at them.
Looking at the rack, I grabbed the Seven Years War issue (number 11). Flipping through, the magazine was not at all what I expected. I just figured it would be some sample figures here and there and generic writing.
Looking at the table of content and flipping through the magazine, I saw that it provides rather detailed painting instructions for painting 28mm miniatures. Plenty of step by step instructions with full references to each color used. In addition, the magazine provides painting instructions for many different units and their uniforms. Frankly, it covers most of what you might want to buy from a figure perspective.
In addition, there is a section on painting terrain and accessories (even canoes!). It gives me some motivation to finish my F&I buildings!
Overall, I think this is a great buy and very nice resource for a gamer that is thinking to get into French and Indian War skirmish gaming and needs something to help guide them to paint their new figures in one source.
