A new release from Gale Force Nine caught my eye at my FLGS. It was a new series of Sci Fi buildings, as part of their new Gothic Sector line. It is the first of nine different models they will be releasing, based on what is showing on their website. The models had the right price, so I picked them up for use with my Star Wars Legion terrain collection (I will probably get most of the others, when they are released).
The models come in the usual nice box with representative box art. All models are wrapped in bubble wrap and well protected. As normal for GF9 terrain, all parts come fully painted and are ready to use on the tabletop. The stronghold comes in two large pieces, that set together. The orbital relay comes in two pieces that come with magnets. All sections come in a dark green with gray, tan and silver details.
Well, I pulled them out of the boxes and set them together. I decided to glue the two main sections together on the relay, as I did not see the point in magnetizing them. There are also two dishes for the relay, but I chose to leave these off, as I did not like the look.
Once I assembled everything, I decided I needed to pimp up the models a bit. I thought the silver was a bit stark and the gray and tan section needed a bit more depth. This was also true of some areas that were done in green. There is also a good amount of yellow and black emergency bordering that I think look sharp.
I started by hitting all the silver and gray areas with a black wash. I also did that with some of the recessed green areas. I hit a few vents with black contrast point also. I then hit the gray and tan areas with a lighter highlight. That was good enough for what I was looking for. Looking back, I probably should hit the models with a statin spray seal. I will probably do that when I get the new ones…
Well, I think these are a nice collection that works well with most sci fi tabletop terrain set ups. As such, they are worth a look.
