I came across the Reaper Bones Mystic Portal at my FLGS. I liked the look of it and thought it would be a nice add to my Pulp terrain collection. So, out came the credit card and home it went!

The model comes moulded in purple translucent semi hard plastic. It comes in four pieces, with little to no flash. Upon examining the parts, I found that the base was warped and needed to be straightened. So, I stuck it on a cookie sheet and baked it at two hundred degrees until it flattened. I then through the whole thing into the freezer to lock in the shape.

I need to decide what color to paint the model…. I wanted to stay with the clear purple for the vortex, but the frame needed something more earthly. I thought about going with bronze, but then settled on just going with gray stone.

With that decided, I sprayed the main sections with some gray and hand painted the ring around the vortex with a similar gray. I then hit the model with a black wash. This was followed with spot washes of brown and green. Next came the dry brushing of two layers of gray. I hit the vortex with a purpose wash and drybrushed it with some light purple. I finished up with a satin finish spray. Now I just have to design a scenario around the portal!
