While doing my new basing test for TYW figures, I remembered that I did not have very many dragoon units (when I checked, I had one). This is rather problematic for most fights of the period! I went to Gajo to see what they had available, but they had no more cavalry stock. Seemed someone bought all their remaining stock last year (someone being me).
I could wait, buy some unpainted figures and either send them away or paint them myself or I could see if I could find some on eBay. That took me to eBay…. I started looking on what was posted and found a lot of options from a seller in Great Britain. These were mostly old school figures, but that is fine, as most of my existing collection fits into that category.
Looking at the figure, I noted a lot were very shiny (old school) and most had simple block painted schemes with no shading (old school). Well, I could work with them. The price was right, so I bought them all.
The figures eventually arrived and I unpacked them and organized them. The figures generally had crisp paint jobs, so I would be able to pimp them up easily. I attached them all to their bases. I then did a number of target washes on each figure (this is all the shading Mose 15mm figures really need in my opinion). That took care of the shading and most of the shiny effects, as the washes dulled down the sheen.
I then went through and did the basing, following my earlier experiment from the month before. I fished up with some spray dull coat to lock in the flock and remove the remaining sheen from the more glossy selections.
With that, in not too much time and at a pretty low price, I have a bunch of dragoons to fill out some of the holes in my army!
