Another Hisoricon deal caught my eye, while I was walking the dealer hall. I was at the Monster Fight Club booth looking at their offerings. In addition to their normal box sets, they had bins in the center with a lot of their terrain in bulk bags. This included their trees and bushes.
I went through all the bins, as the prices were very low (well below retail). I considered buying some of the tree armatures, but I already have so many dead trees in my collection. I then looked over the bushes and thought these would work out well as scatter terrain in some of my pulp and sci fi games. With that, I bought two sets.
Each set comes with two each of three sizes of bushes. They are high enough to hide a 25mm figure, to add blocking terrain, without too much height. The bushes come in moulded semi hard green plastic. The leaf details is very nice and picks up dry brushing very well. They are hollow, so you can stack them for more efficient storage. Because of the material, they are also very rugged, with no real risk of damage if you drop the. The bushes are also available painted in green, white and orange.
Normally, I would prime such miniatures, but I thought I would test if these would hold paint out of the box. Since the pieces are in dark green plastic, the coloration works as a base. I started with a dark brown wash over all the models. The wash went where it was supposed to do and did not pool or run with no problems. With the wash in place, I dryburshed up two shades of green, with more focus on the top. I finished with a kayo due coat to lock in the paint.
I like how they came out, and with very little effort! Now I just need to find a few zip lock bags to store them in and add them to my traveling terrain box.
