One of the big changes with the new version of Warhammer the Old World is in the magic system. As usual, they have totally revamped it with the version change. One of the spell categories in the game are vortexes. These existed in the past, but were a bit over the top. In the new version, they are not as deadly, but are much more common.
Since they are on the table more, I thought it would be nice to do something to pimp them up a bit. I needed something easy. So, me thought was to pick up a few clear monster miniatures from Reaper Bones. I plan to color code these with the three and five inch discs.
I found a few monsters that worked for cheap and picked them up. I decided to do different colors, to keep them straight on the table. I went with a simple scheme. I just grabbed some green and blue contrast paint and applied them to each miniature. I figured this would keep some of the translucence effect. Once that dried, I I hit the models with a white drybrush for a little more depth. I then sprayed them with some gloss coat to shine them up, for a liquid effect.
My plan is just to set these on top of my templates on the table. I am still looking for my old clear templates, but figured I could get started in the meantime. I did manage to find my orange ones, so I guess I need to pick up another miniature to match the color next! Just a little hobby extra to add some flavor to the tabletop. I can use the figure on both temples and the models are easy to stick in a bag and put in my game accessories box.
