While gaming at my FLGS, I did my normal shopping run. I noticed a neat miniature fountain from Wiz Kids and picked it up. I thought it would work well for some of my 28mm game tables.
The miniature comes assembled, but you can pop it apart into five pieces. Two are water and the other three are the fountain itself. In order to paint the model and keep some of the clear plastic in tact, you do need to separate the model. However, if you just want to paint the water direct, there is no problem painting it as a single model.
After I separated section of the model, I sprayed the fountain with gray primer. Next I applied a black wash, with green and brown washes in some random areas. Next came a few levels of gray drybrush. I sprayed the fountain with some Krylon satin coat to seal it.
For the water, first I thought I could paint the bottom and have it show through. However, the ringed connections means this would not work. So, I applied just applied a grey wash to the top. I still did not like that, so I added a camo green wash over that.
Once all the parts were mostly done, I glued the fountain back together. I used white glue on the water sections, so they would not fog up and super glue on the main fountain connection points. I finished by painting gloss coat over the water sections. With that, my fountain is ready for the next game of something…. It is a nice little piece that should good on the tabletop. The price can’t be beat, so definitely worth a look.
