Having finally finished my Flames of War winter Soviet force, I turned to some vehicular support. A few moths ago, I found some Aerosans on the Peter Pig website and thought they would be the perfect add to the force. I ordered six to field as two platoons of recon.
The figures are caste in white metal and require a degree of assembly. The main body is a single piece, with the four skis, propeller blade and machine-gun shield being separate. They had a bit of flash, but it was easy to remove. The assembly is straight forward.
I decided to go with a full white scheme for the models. I started with a full spray of shite primer. I then hit the whole model with GW white contrast. Next, what two levels of wet and dry brushing in white. Next then hit the springs and a few sections with a black wash. I followed by applying black contrast on the engine, machine gun, top opening and propeller. The final details were adding chainmail to the engine and machine gun, with two shades of brown on the propeller blades. A little krylon spray to lock everything in.
The skis seemed a bit fragile for game play, so I decided the models needed to be affixed to bases. The best thing was the large artillery base. So, I sprayed six of those gray and added some white snow pumice and winter tufts. These are the same as what I did for my infantry, so they blend together.
There are no stats in the game for these. I will just use the British armored jeep stats and that should fit the bill. These can be used with both my Soviets and my Finns, so I will avoid any national specific markings. Now I just need to decided if I want to work on some more winter vehicles for the force or move onto another project!
