I needed some aircraft decals to work on a few of my Axis and Allies aircraft. I put an order in to I-94 decals to cover my future plane work. Included was a set of Italian roundels. This allowed me to finish a pair of Re 2001s I had ready to go.
The two planes I selected to work on next were two Re 2001s. These came in the green mainland Europe color scheme. I wanted a set in this scheme to support my mainland Europe Italians in Russian, the balkans and Sicily.
The were a much easier pimp job, so I could get them done quickly. I started with hitting the green areas with a highlight and black lining the control surfaces and some of the white areas. I highlighted the lower wing gray. I then hit the white areas with a heavy white highlight. Next was to print some scoops and vents black. The painting finished by hitting the glass canopy areas with some contrast blue.
Next, I sprayed the planed with a satin coat. With my new decals in hand, I added the upper wing roundels to go with the marking already on the model. I finished up with painting the canopy glass with gloss coat to make it stick out. With that, my Italians have more air support. Now, I just need to pick my next victims out of the airplane stack!
