I decided my next Axis and Allies aircraft pimping project would be Italian aircraft to support my desert forces. I had choses this aircraft, as it covers the entire war. The came is available in both European theater green and Mediterranean camo versions. I went with the camo option on these, as it was the obvious match for my desert forces.
This plane needed a bit more pimping than some of the other planes I have done. First, I felt the tan and green needed to be lighted. The green also needed to be a little more dense. I started by dry brushing up the tan on the upper surfaces. I then hit the green camo areas with a lighter green. I added more green to fill in the camo more. I then used some pin washes on the white areas and the rudder and flaps.
Next would be the details. I started by painting black on exposed engine and cockpit areas. The engine cowling and engine are flat, so I had to freeform the engine area (downside of this model). I then hit all the white areas with a heavy drybrush to lighten it up and correct for the pin washes.
I hit the cockpit glass with contrast blue and painted the exposed pilot. The model came with the air superiority black upper wing national insignia, so I added some decals to have the full color versions. I also added a side fuselage number and symbol to add a bit of detail
I finished up with a Krylon satin sealer spray paint a bit of gloss on the cockpit glass to finish up the models. I think my next set will be a little more straight forward!
