I needed some cavalry to go with my gnome army. I had some snail riders already, but could not find anything in the Goblin list that would correspond with them on the tabletop. So, I turned to Etsy to see if I could find something that would go with my woodland theme.
I did some searches and came across some crazy rabbit models with big teeth. They had a good squid look to them, so I ordered a few sets. They arrived and I test fitted my existing rider models and that worked, so it was time to paint.
I went with a simple white scheme. I started with white and hit the models with a GW contrast white. I then highlighted up the white again for the white fur effect. I then hit the ears and noses with a pink contrast and then a regular pink highlight. I went with tan on the claws, so they would not stand out too much.
Since it was all about the mouth, I went with pink outlines and red on the tongue. I hit the teeth with a brown wash and then highlighted up to white. Next was the eyes. I thought about pink, but I thought that would wash out with all the other pink. So, I went with light blue grey irises and black pupils. I kept these small, to give the crazy look.
I finished up the bases to match my other troops (pumice, flock and tufts). I finished up by bluing on the riders that I had painted earlier with my infantry. I was short two riders, so I just blued two figures standing with their mount.
With all that, I now have two units of mad mushroom hopped up Rabid Rabbit Riders to take the field with the rest of my Gnomes. Now, I just need to figure out what to do about chariots…..
