So far, most of my troops have been kind of squishy, so I needed my heavy options. I already did some small tree herders and plan to use them as stone trolls (kind of a wood troll I guess…). While going through my miniature collection, I found some monstrous infantry that I bought from Mierce Miniatures some time ago. I think they were some type of swamp monsters. Looking these over, I thought they would make nice earth elementals to use as River Trolls.
I pulled them out and glued them to some 40mm bases. I sprayed them dark drown and drybrushed them up a few shades. I hit them with a brown wash to tie in the color and filter the colors a bit. I did the same for all the rocks that were sculpted on the figures. I decided to go with layers of tans on the claws to represent sharp wood. I thought about doing this as stone (it would make more sense), but I preferred the tan effect.
I finished up the bases like I did my other Gnome army figures. Brown pumice, drybrushed up with tufts of flowers and bushes. I took some of the same flocking and flowers and added them to the top of the figures to give the look of having freshly raising from the ground. I trimmed the bases and sprayed them with dull coat to finish them up.
This gives me ten trolls (five river and five stone), which should be enough to field a unit and a single troll for each type. Both look very different, so they should not cause confusion on the tabletop.

I like the flock on these guys, great idea!
