I took a drive to Williamsburg with a buddy of mine to attend the Williamsburg Muster. It is a small wargame convention that is held every year in Williamsburg Virginia. Like most recent years, the event was held at the Clarion Hotel, not too far from the historic district.
The event fills up two large rooms. The first room is the tournament room. This space is often filled to capacity with different game tournaments. The day I was there, there was a 40k and a Bolt Action tourney.
Then there is the main game room. This has the stand alone games and also all the vendors. The build of the games being run were historical in nature. There was also a smattering of fantasy and games that were kid friendly.
There were about ten vendors present. Some were long time attendees and a couple were new to this event. I found a couple of items that I could not pass on the price. I also found some old painted GW plastic hill sections. These were sets that I did not buy when these were available, but wished that I had. I was very tempted, but decided to pass. They were nicely painted, but not in a style that match any of my terrain. It is a very rare thing, but I managed to find some self restraint!
The attendance was higher than I can remember. They have definitely recovered from the Covid attendance drop off. This is a good thing, as it should ensure the event continues. I ran into some old buddies that were also in attendance and hung out. So, it was a nice day all around!
It’s a nice little event. Being in the historic Williamsburg area, there are also plenty of other things to see (I always tie this visit with at least one museum visit). There is also a large outlet mall in the area, for those so inclined…
