Not Lend Lease Armor Project – Princess Irene Dutch Vehicles.

Posted on February 12, 2024

While I was sorting out my decal and organizational challenges for my Lend Lease Project, I decided I wanted some units in Flames of War to represent the Princess Irene Dutch Brigade. I Finished up the infantry some time ago, with the help of Gajo.

I needed a few vehicles to fill out the Recce sections of the Brigade. First, I needed some Humber armored cards and then some Universal Carriers. The latter was easy, as this just required a box of the newish Battlefront Universal models. I got these at my FLGS and build them once evening. The Humbers were more of a problem. It seems these late models are no longer made by Battlefront, as it seems only Daimlers are represented… Well, for game purposes, the stats are the same, so no issue finding the correct armored car. Here was another case of turning to Battlefield 3d to fill out the hole.

The models arrived and I cleaned them up. They are two part, with the hull and turret coming separately. I quickly spritzed these up with the Universals and got them up to the same level as my other lend lease vehicles and got them in the queue. The only different to all the US based stuff, was the wet brush of the main green. This was a British armor green, in place of the US olive drab. Other than that, all the other steps are the same. Even though I used a totally different base color, this one change gives a noticeably different final look.

I could not find the decals for the unit, so I had to settle for some compromises. For the regimental signs, I just painted mud over the fender areas those symbols would show up. Another advantage with going with the muddy track and wheel technique! For the Brigade symbol, I found some similar looking black British unit decals and added some orange on top to give the look at a distance.

With these vehicles, my 1944 Dutch Brigade is now ready to see action!
