Tuesday night came around and it was game night. One of my buddies decided he wanted to do some stuff with the last version of Space Hulk. This is a game that neither of us own, but that did not stop him! He managed to find what he wanted piecemeal online and got the stuff over the Christmas – New Years break.
He assembled all the models and mounted them on 40mm round bases. He added some bits to the bases to doll them up. He then painted up all the miniatures using Speed Paints. He found the pdfs of the boards and printed them himself using a 1.5 to 1 ratio, so the bases would fit better. He then mounted all these on thick foam board. With that, he had a game!
Well, he showed up and set up the game. He and I were the first ones there, so we gave it a try. I took the Tyrannids and he took the Terminators. The scenario was that the Terminators had to flame the top room.
I set up my blips and he set up his troops. I went with heavy blips in front of the Terminator advance, with lower blips behind. My thought was the rear terminator blips would slow him down, while I massed my assaults to the front. I would then feed enough blips behind to keep the pressure on and take any opportunity to attack.
He marched forward towards his objective and we went at it. I generally stayed with my plan and slowly overwhelmed the Terminators, using corners to jump out and minimize the shooting. My plan worked out, as I finished him off at the first corner.
We actually ended up playing five games over the course of the evening, switching players in each game. The Terminators lost them all. I think the scenario favors the Tyranids, at least for the casual player. With that said, he has been painting and we will probably try it again next week!
