I had put together a company of British late war infantry some time ago. I organized each platoon to sue them as mech infantry support for my tanks. I decided it would be nice to go back and fill out the force, so I could also play them as leg infantry. I decided I needed a few more support weapons for when I fielded the force as an infantry company.
With that desire in mind, I turned to my friends at Gajo and ordered some sets to fill out my desired units. I ordered enough guys to fill out two MMG platoons, a 3″ mortar platoon, a 4.2″ Mortar platoon and some extra Piat teams.
The figures arrived and I set them aside and pulled them out when I started on my big basing project.. I started by spraying the bases dark brown and then glued down all the figures. These had to match my existing troops, so I went with the same technique. This was in the days that pumice only came in white, gray and black. So, I had to match the old figures and start by basing all the stands with Vallejo black pumice.
With the black base, I had to work my up on the basing. I started with a dark brown wet brush. I then went on by giving each a light earth dry brush and then added an Iraqi sand dry brush. I then painted all the borders dark earth.
I then applied patches of summer flock from Scenic Express with white glue. This was followed up with some fall tufts on each base. At this point, I attached all the guns. I did not like the coloration of the guns, so I worked these up with a wash and highlight to better match my existing troops.
Some spray matt finish and another batch of troops is done!
