I had put together a company of US and Free French infantry some time ago. I organized each platoon, so I could play it as either Infantry, mech infantry of engineers. I decided I needed a few more support weapons for when I fielded the force as an infantry company. I also wanted some more bases of infantry with Adrian helmets to sprinkle through the units when I was playing them as French.
With that desire in mind, I turned to my friends at Gajo and ordered some sets to fill out my desired units. I ordered enough guys to fill out an MMG platoon, a mortar platoon, an AT battery and some extra command and Adrian helmet soldiers from their Mediterranean French set. I also had some late war painted paratroopers that I did some years ago that I decided I might as well base up as an independent platoon.
The figures arrived and I set them aside and pulled them out when I decided to catch up on all my FOW basing. I started by spraying the bases dark brown and then glued down all the figures. These had to match my existing troops, so I went with the same technique. I started by basing all the stands with Vallejo dark brown mud.
Since the intent was to go with a late fall winter look, these would be kept simple. I started by giving each a light earth dry brush and then added an Iraqi sand dry brush. I then painted all the borders dark earth. At this point, I realized I was out of tan tufts, so had to order some of these online (my FLGS was out of stock).
A week went by and they arrived. So, I sat down one evening and attached the tufts with white glue. I then glued down some loose figures and guns.
I then went back over all the heavy weapons and hit them with a heavy highlight coat of olive green to wrap things up. Some spray matt finish and another batch of troops is done! One more batch to go!
