I finally decided I wanted to do some dutch troops for 1940. I found that Peter Pig has a nice line, so I ordered enough for a company. Once I did that, I thought about the Dutch during the allies 1944 campaign. I found the old FOW briefing online and some other sits. I have various extra British equipment, so this would give me an excuse to use it. So, I figured out what I would do to represent some of the infantry and recon elements on the tabletop.
I went to my box and pulled out the equipment for the recon, to add to my queue. Now, I just needed some troops! Well, back online to my favorite painted troop source at Gajo. They have some nice British offerings, so I went through hem and liked the older metal BF figures. I ordered enough guys to represent the troops, MGs, mortars and ATGs. I ordered the units and they arrived later in the week.
Looking over the figures, I did not see any issues. However, I did to like the hessian helmet covers in tan, as I preferred the green version. Other than that, everything looked good. So, I started with spraying the bases brown and gluing all the figures down to match the units I wanted.
I wanted these to go with my other troops, but look a little different. So I decided to go with a more dark base for a more soil look. So I started with some Vallejo brown mud pumice and let that dry. I followed up with three lives of drybrush. First was brown, then dark earth and finally Iraqi Sand. I kept everything on the dark side. I then added woodland Scenics flock mix and followed with some dark tan tufts that I had. I added some spiky tufts to add a bush here and there. I had used these on my 25mm to date, but now I think I might reconsider these on 15mm figures, as they make nice larger bushes.
I hit each base border with a dark earth from Vallejo, I finished by adding a green wash to the helmet covers to tint them. I also decided to hit all the ground support weapons with some olive green to lighten them and get them to match better. Some sealer and now I have my Dutch Brigade!
